Ethically Speaking

Corporate Social Activisim

with Donald "Don" Mayer, JD
Professor of the Practice
Department of Business Ethics and Legal Studies

In this edition of Ethically Speaking, Dan Sweeney and Don Mayer, discuss the new social activism in corporate America. Since the 1970's corporations have lobbied for and against legislation and regulation they deemed detrimental to their business, but the new social activism has less to do with bottom line economics and more to do with society at large.

This past March, Tim Cook, CEO of Apple, and Marc Benioff, CEO of Salesforce, went after North Carolina lawmakers for restricting certain gay rights. Mark Zuckerberg, Facebook CEO, has been openly critical of proposed changes to U.S. immigration policy. John Mackey, founder and CEO of Whole Foods Market, continues to espouse his belief in conscious capitalism.

What does it all mean? The episode of Ethically Speaking delves into these subjects and more.
